Throughout your retaking journey, there will be points where you're bound to feel overwhelmed. It is during these moments that it's crucial to not bottle up your emotions and talk to a trusted adult.

This adult might be your parent, a relative, a teacher or even a counsellor. (more on how find counsellors

Cut off/Distance yourself
from toxic influences

When committing to the journey of retaking, there is a good chance that there there will be nay-sayers and those
who just know how to push your buttons.
If you know of individuals who make you doubt yourself and spread nothing but negativity, look to cutting them out from your life.
We understand however, that some of these individuals may come in the form of family. In this scenario, we implore you to find a trusted friend/adult who you can rely on and whom you know can offer you support.
Constantly remind yourself of the goal you want to achieve and surround yourself with those who believe in you and uplift you.

Other than relationships, another aspect you might want to look into would be social media. While social media isn't inherently toxic or negative, it could make you a victim of comparing your life to others. Especially given that retaking is a lonely journey, social media may amplify your feelings of being 'left behind' or FOMO. While it may be hard to completely shut off social media, look for other ways you can be
more conscious of the way you use social media.
Some tips you could consider would be :
1) Deactivating your main & creating a private account where you're only in touch with your closest circle of friends
2) Having a time limit on social media accounts and sticking to it

The concept of
Pockets of Stillness

While you dedicate most of your time to studying, remember to still carve out time to unwind. Quite literally, carve out pockets of stillness in your day ! This could be taking time off to meditate, exercise or going for an evening walk. The key is to do so on a regular basis so that regardless of the day or scenario, you have a specific time carved out to take care of yourself and take stock of your emotions.

(i.e ensure that you practise this as a habit and stick to a schedule -

for example : exercising during a specific time)
